Trust Update

Over the that last several years move to ACT has been encouraging the Humane Society of Indianapolis (HSI) to live up to its potential and utilize with greater discretion the millions of dollars it attracts and has at its disposal for the animals in Marion County.

Although the recent "Rebuild Trust" campaign was unable to protect the Mary Powell Crume Trust from being put at-risk for use as collateral for $1.7M loan, it was successful in prompting the Indiana Attorney General to "move to ACT" and apply closer scrutiny to the trust management. This is good!

Spotlighting of reckless shelter medicine practices has encouraged HSI to "move to ACT" to reassess its protocol for cats exposed to panleukopenia. This is good!

Spotlighting of a recent screening and lost-and-found "gone wrong" event has again encouraged HSI to "move to ACT" and revise these protocols . This is good!

In order to give this agency the opportunity to move forward, mtA has removed from the home page the coverage of these past misadventures.

Move to ACT invites this agency to move ahead with more careful operations and honor their commitment made by the executive director in the August 2004 'Going Home Newsletter,' "HSI will continue to collaborate with any animal welfare group willing to focus on solutions that help more animals stay in their homes or get into loving new homes." We hope this will include support of high volume, low cost spay.neuter initiatives.
