How much does it cost to spay or neuter a dog in Marion County?
Access to affordable spay/neuter (s/n) services for companion animals is a fundamental component in reducing the number of animals destroyed in a community. Fewer animals die when fewer animals are born. Progressive organizations like "Spay Neuter Services of Indiana" (SNSI) and the "F.A.C.E." clinic have recognized this and make available this service at nominal cost.
Unfortunately, not everyone who has a pet qualifies for a SNSI discount certificate or finds their way to the F.A.C.E. clinic but would find their way to a local, affordable veterinary practitioner if they knew of one close to where they live.
In order to make access to a local veterinarian (with affordable S/N services) easier for local residents, Move to ACT (www.movetoact.org ) conducted a survey of Marion County veterinary practices during Dec, 2006 and Jan 2007 to see what their charges were for this service. We used as our model client(s) a 45 lb male and female dog and asked about additional costs.
In addition to getting a companion animal sterilized as soon as possible, it is also important for pet owners to have a continuing relationship with a veterinarian for ongoing medical care for their pet so this contact also provides an opportunity for this relationship to develop.
Please post these documents and/or reproduce and make them available to anyone in need of finding their way to a veterinarian for sterilizing their companion animal. We want every day to be "Spay/Neuter your pet day."
Sincerely,
Move to ACT
